The second big business achievement of my year happened last week: I finally reopened my Etsy pottery storefront! To catch you up on the development of this update, I launched my ceramics ecommerce site back in 2018, the first year I started doing pottery, but was forced to shut it down during lockdown back in 2020 since I wasn’t able to get to the studio in person to make new work.
It somehow took five years for me to mentally recover enough to relaunch this side of my business. I think a lot of it came down to a distrust in my abilities after COVID rocked my world, and imposter syndrome after getting addicted to social media over the last few years. I saw so many incredibly talented artists flourishing online and I thought that I could never stack up to that, so I let my pottery focus slide. All that accomplished, though, was a deep disappointment in myself and a pretty major lapse in my practice. Enough was enough.
So, I got back on the wheel, and thanks to the encouragement of my friend Sarah, I also dabbled a bit in hand-building and discovered that I really enjoyed that style of ceramics. Many months of work later, I was ready to relaunch the DGD Pottery Etsy shop, and it’s ready for you to look through here.
One thing I wanted to do differently this time was add even more value to the shopping experience with a fun freebie that comes with each purchase. I ultimately decided to write a 16-page ceramics styling guide that shares more than 20 ideas for how to arrange and display your handmade ceramics collection, complete with photo examples of how to achieve certain looks.
Since I’m so grateful for you, my beloved Home Matters subscribers, I decided to offer the printable guide to you without having to make a purchase! You can download and print the guide here (or simply read it on your computer or iPad). I hope you find the PDF helpful as you work on arranging your treasures at home. I also wanted to give you a discount if you see something in my shop that you love. So, use code “DGD18” to score 18% off your order now through July 16.
Happy shopping, and thanks to much for your support this summer! I know it has been a little heavy on shopping updates between today’s announcement and my wallpaper collection going live last month, but it makes me so thrilled to know that my products could end up in your lovely homes. We’ll be back to normal DIY home décor programming next time. Stay tuned!
Things worth mentioning this week…
New On The Blog: I just added the cutest pink filing cabinet from Bisley Store to my home office. See how I’m making the most of it to run my small business here on dreamgreendiy.com.
What I’m Watching: Have you guys seen Joanna Gaines’ Mini Reni series? It’s available on Magnolia Network (streaming via Max) and is full of amazing color and texture inspiration for your next room makeover. Her version of “mini” isn’t even close to mine, but I still really enjoy watching the show.
What I’m Reading: Since I don’t get to go to the beach this summer, I’ve been escaping vicariously through the Peachtree Bluff books by Kristy Woodson Harvey. It’s set on the coast and full of delightful family drama—the perfect beachy read! Check out the rest of my summer book list here if you missed it.
Favorite Recent Purchase: Have I mentioned this Magnetic Tea Pot yet? Well, even if I have, it bears repeating because it’s gorgeous and has made my afternoon cup of tea so much more enjoyable.
Looking Forward To: Finishing up the at-home pottery studio that I’m putting in our unfinished basement! My parents have been so helpful in making this happen, and it’s going to make working on developing my art so much easier. I can’t thank them enough for their support.
