Designing A Room Using My New Wallpaper Line
See how I’d decorate around the “Branching Bonsai” wallpaper that I created exclusively with Fancy Walls.
It’s official! My exclusive wallpaper collection with Fancy Walls is available for purchase as of yesterday, and I couldn’t be more pleased by the response. Thank you all so much for your encouragement and support with this very exciting launch. It makes me grin from ear to ear imagining these patterns that I dreamed up living in your beautiful homes. Please, please share photos of your wallpapering projects once they’re done so I can see and share them! Nothing would bring me more joy—truly.
Since I know committing to a wallpaper can be a little hard for some, I thought I’d share inspiration for how to design a room around one of the patterns in my collection. I’m starting this series today here in the Home Matters newsletter for subscribers, but I think I’ll continue it on my blog, so make sure you’re following along with me on dreamgreendiy.com. First up: how I’d design a space around my “Branching Bonsai” wallpaper.
Resources: wallpaper, mirror, armchair, sconce, black and white art print, colorful art print, floor lamp, faux plant, curtains, coffee table, sofa, console, rug, side tables
This tree-themed pattern came about because of my personal love for Japanese art, architecture, and plant design. I’ve seen wallpaper like this in some of my favorite preserved mid-century homes, and have always dreamed of adding that style to our own home. Now I can make that happen with “Branching Bonsai”!
The collection of home décor and furniture in the graphic above is how I would decorate around this wallpaper. I’d use earth tones to create a cohesive color scheme, then give the more subdued colors a bit of modern personality by incorporating bold texture, like the faceted detail on the front of the console I chose. I love how the linear pattern in the rug mimics the look of a classic shoji screen, and the rice paper lamp was also chosen specifically to nod to the traditional bonsai pattern on the walls.
Not wanting the room to become to “themey,” though, I kept the rest of the space more contemporary, with sleek mid-century furniture, an angular sconce, abstract art, and clean pinch pleat linen curtains. That sofa is one of my favorite pieces in this collection. I’m smitten with the combination of green upholstery with that dark walnut wood detail across the front bottom edge.
This, of course, is just one way to decorate around my “Branching Bonsai” design, so I’d love to hear how you’d interpret the pattern at home. Would you lean into the Japanese influence, or take it in a totally different direction? As I said when I first introduced this collection of neutral-toned wallpaper patterns, I intentionally kept the color palette minimal so that homemakers could incorporate color through art, furniture, and other decorative accents. Theres’s so much room for creativity with these designs! See the full collection of wallpaper options here.
Things worth mentioning this week…
New On The Blog: I just recently shared a glowing review of the Rochambeau Roadside Inn in Williamsburg, Virginia, and I meant every word in that post. What a charming little escape, and the perfect distance to both Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. I can’t wait to go back in the fall.
What I’m Watching: Eric Wang’s YouTube channel is my latest obsession. His 1960s home reminds me so much of our last house!
What I’m Reading: I just finished Food Saved Me from my summer reading list, and really appreciated hearing about someone else’s perspective on being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I don’t know that I buy everything that the author suggests in terms of diet and treating her UC, but it was amazing how much I could relate to in terms of her experience with flare-ups and the emotional strain of dealing with a chronic, life-long illness.
Favorite Recent Purchase: I’ve been trying to drink more tea lately, so I ordered this glass teapot with an infuser and built-in suction lid. The modern glass and wood design is really eye-catching, and I love that I now have a pot I can use with my loose-leaf teas.
Looking Forward To: Don’t hate me, but with the temperatures in the mid-90s this week, I’m kinda just looking forward to fall. I’m dreaming of cool afternoons spent on our patio, sweaters, boots, and all the holidays that come along with my favorite time of year.
